It was May 2006… Daddy was 89 years old living his last days. On this particular morning, I got up early as I normally did to get ready to go to work. Instead I was led by the Holy Spirit to call Daddy and read him a few scriptures and so I did. Although he was weak, in a lot of discomfort and his speech was slurred, he acknowledged that he could hear me clearly and understood what I was saying. When I finished reading the scriptures, I asked him, do you accept Jesus as your personal savior? Very faintly he said “Yes”. A few days later, May 19, 2006, Daddy passed. When I travelled to Panama to attend Daddy’s funeral service, I took the opportunity to thank Pastora (she is a Pastor and close family friend) for visiting and praying with and for Daddy in his last days. She hugged me and confirmed what I already knew, that Daddy was right with God. I loved my father and at the end of our lives Salvation is the only thing that really matters.

A few months later I had a dream. Daddy was dressed-up in a winter white suit. Daddy was a handsome man but he looked better than I’ve ever seen him, he looked great! So I said to him “Daddy you look good!” and I repeated it over and over again. And he had a BIG smile on his face. Then I said “Daddy, you made it to heaven!” He nodded yes, smiling. We exchanged a few words and I started asking him for others. I asked, is so and so there? He nodded yes. Then I asked what about so and so? And in one of those his countenance suddenly changed and his head dropped and with a low voice he said “He didn’t make it.” At that point I woke-up! It’s really hard for me to put into words how I felt when I woke-up. I had mixed feelings, I was happy yet sad…you know what I mean? A lot of things went through my mind then it hit me… not everybody makes it to Heaven.

When God inspired me to write my book A Time To Reflect He wanted the first chapter to talk about Salvation because if you read nothing else, at least you will read that. Salvation is the key to life after death. “Jesus said to her, He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 (NIV). Don’t be fooled! There is only one God, and there is only one way to God–Jesus. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV)

Please know that “Salvation that comes from trusting Christ–which is the message we preach–is already within easy reach. In fact the Scriptures say, “The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.” Romans 10:8-10 (NLT)
