When you talk to God, how do you see Him?

Is He a vulnerable babe in a manger, or a man in a robe with sandals? Do you see Him hanging on a cross, or seated at the right hand of power?

How Do You Envision Your God?

Friend
Sometimes, He is a man’s size walking hand in hand, discussing things that are important to me.

Lord of Hosts
Mostly, He’s a fierce man of war. His army is mighty and strong, they don’t break ranks they march every one with purpose, destroying the works of the enemy. Organized, and powerful, nothing can defeat them, and they always win. Their swords whet, striking exactly, never once in retreat. Standing firm, with winged beings backing them up to take out provocative little skirmishes. Chariots riding the wind, with flames instead of dust at the base advance with immeasurable speed.

Like a crushing ocean wave, the wicked are pushed back, and swept away by this host of power. And then it is calm. They rest briefly. I see the breastplates rising and lowering as they breathe, standing victorious.

Majestic
Lately, I see just the skirt, or train as Isaiah saw in chapter six. He’s high and lifted up, with thunders and lightening, watery voices speaking around Him, a billowing cloudlike substance enfolding the throne area. The scene is surreal with the rainbow colors and crystal glasslike sea extending dramatically before Him. When He speaks, things happen. There is no debate. It is not a democracy.

Savior
Sometimes, approaching the Holy of Holies, there is a thick curtain of blood, where one must stop and remember how it is we are even able to glimpse the reality of God. How humbly Jesus died, how sacred is that room, how thankful we should be that God rescued us from certain death.

As this humility and unworthiness touches my heart, there, I carefully, slowly pass through that precious blood, emerging clean before The Ancient of Days, Almighty God. And Jesus Himself, gently takes my hand as we approach our Father together.

Sometimes, speaking to Jesus to intercede, other times holding Jesus’ nail scarred hand, I remember, “the Father Himself loves you and knows what you need before you ask, so ask Him therefore, He knows how to give good gifts to His children. Fear not little flock, it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” So, I speak directly to my loving Father, with full permission and access, because of the blood.

Think about how you see Him, and ask if you are seeing enough.

Get to know His many characteristics. It will increase your faith, strengthen your relationship, and make you fall in love over and over and over again.
