Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday September 29, 2011
Back in the day during an interview Joe Theismann remarked, "Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein." I think Joe was referring to the brother of Albert. Albert could tell you why an improperly thrown football wobbles, but couldn't throw one himself. Al did make a rather insightful statement one time on our ability to change our part of the world:
"The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking." Albert Einstein.
I found this statement by Einstein in one of those self-love books that attempt to have us love our self so much that we long to die in our own arms.
Admittedly I often write on the idea of changed minds as an important part of moving toward the lifestyle the Lord would have us enjoy along the journey of life. And just as often some well-meaning "Norman Einstein" will write and castigate me for preaching what they call mind science instead of the Gospel failing to realize that the Gospel is the greatest fulfillment of the grandest idea of time and eternity. I suppose repentance; the 180 degree mind change about Christ is part and parcel of conversion misses their point receptor.
The fact that a true disciple is called to a total mental renovation of world view thought life somehow shoots right over the brain or perhaps is reverberating in an empty cranium and is mere gibberish to them.
The natural man in an unconverted condition is pretty much all about self. That Christ is not about self is evident in every aspect of His being is demonstrated and glaringly so in His life of obedience to the divine plan. Concerning the difference in mental processes between God and man Paul wrote in Philippians 2:5-8:
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." The attributes of the "mind of Christ" are totally opposite of the idea of a superman according to the world concept of such a man. To let the mind of Christ rule in our life sets us apart from the me generation and puts us in position to live, learn and love without the encumbrances borne by the bulk of humanity. Thus we are free spiritually, mentally and physically as was John on the Isle of Patmos.
Ask Christ to change your mind about things and get on with life.
