The Psalms
Psalm 104:24-34, 35b – God’s Magnificent Creation
Key Verses: (NRSV)

• 24: “O Lord, how manifold are your works!” – The psalmist praises God for His creation: ‘what a wonderful world, God, the earth overflows with your creations.’
  
  
• 27: “These all look to you to give them their food in due season.” - All sustenance and life comes from God.
  
  
• 29: “When you hide your face they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die.” – All of creation relies on God’s presence to the point that no one can live without Him.
  
  
• 30: “When you send forth your Spirit, they are created.” – When the Holy Spirit enters our hearts we are created, born again, into the family of God.
  
  
• 33-34: “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live…May my meditation be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the Lord.” – We know we are to lift songs of praise God, but the psalmist prays that his meditative thoughts are moments to please God as well.
  

Points to Contemplate:

• Do you wonder in amazement at God’s creation? When was the last time you truly sat back to enjoy the part of God’s creation that lies before you? Do you marvel at His creation or take it for granted? Do you notice that wherever you look, God’s world is filled with amazing products of His creative powers? Do you take time to praise Him for His creation? Do you gaze in wonderment at a bird building a nest, a bee working a flower, or woman tending to the needs of a child? Do you see how much closer to God you feel when you do take a moment to pause and reflect on His wonderful world?
  
  
• Do you turn to God for Him to provide for your needs? Do you recognize that from Him all things flow? Does even the smallest morsel become a holy banquet when you stop to recognize that it is a gift from God? If you feel that God does provide for your nourishment and safe keeping does it not also follow that He will provide for you spiritually as well? Do you see how the Holy Spirit is a provision from God to meet your needs spiritually and emotionally? Do you take time from your day to embrace His Spirit and to bask in His love?
  
  
• Have you been created anew in God’s Spirit? Are you transformed by His love? Do you pray that He will work within you to create a holy life? Do you allow Him to take charge of your life so that His creative powers are magnified through you? When this happens do you sing praises to God? Are your meditations pleasing to Him? If not, what should you do? Should you give more of yourself over to His love?
  

Promise of the Gospel:

Not only has God created the universe, not only do you have Him to thank for grand sceneries and magnificent vistas God has also created every speck of dirt in which we come in contact. His magnificence is visible wherever we look. However, the psalmist looks beyond the wonders of His works and focuses on the nourishing, tender loving care the Master Gardener provides for each and every one of us. His Spirit resides within us nourishing our souls in ways that that are too innumerable to count. It is this unceasing love that brings us ever closer to His glory.
