We are all like sojourners who have been sent on a very important mission, but many of us have lost our way. Being pulled along like a child's pulltoy securely ensconced in our comfortable basket, where do we think we are going? In our safe, padded, festooned, and berribboned basket we wave to passers-by and call our "God Bless" to those we know. As long as the way is smooth we give little thought to our ultimate destination, too busy enjoying the ride. Admiring the scenery, always on the look out for a larger or finer basket, we are unconcerned about the actual power source or how much energy is supplied by others to keep us moving. We are pleased to see others like us smoothly traveling along. Our intention is that everyone would travel as we do. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

When we encounter others having a bumpy or tumultuous ride we are uneasy and look away wanting to deny the possibility of a rough ride for ourselves. We have no desire to come face to face with reality. Only when the going gets rough do we lift our heads, look around, and yell "Hey, what are you doing up there?"

Some of us feel like we are on a nonexistent path being pulled through the underbrush, continually being slapped across the face with tree limbs and thorny bushes. We must hold on tight, constantly ducking the next obstacle and shouting out warnings to those behind us. Our safety does not lie in a pretty basket or a smooth ride, but in our ultimate destination. We know where we are going will not be a smooth ride, but we sing joyfully between every obstacle. It is the blessed ones who choose this treacherous path.

Let us never forget our destination or we may find ourselves riding comfortably along but going to hell in our handbasket.
