Christian Living
Tolerate me for a moment while I upset your concepts of worship.
We all lift our hands in worship. We all look up toward the sky. It’s our way of lifting HIM up and, therefore, being drawn unto Him. Oh, it’s a good thing and ought to be done often, even daily. But when does it occur to us, if ever, that the reflection of the omnipotent and omnipresent, living God’s light is found on the ground at our feet? How much more often will we find His divine direction for the things He has predestined for us if we will but look down rather than looking up?
How many times have we missed a blessing, or even missed the mark because we failed to look directly in front of us, hoping for something to fall out of the sky? Sometimes His directions, His blessings, and His divine plans for our lives are so simple, direct, and right in front of us that we’re too blind to see them. Not only in our worship, but in our search for truth and direction, looking down is significant. How many of us can read His lamp, His Word, by holding it high above our heads for any period of time without our arms giving out? Look down! Or look straight ahead. A lamp is placed on a table, not on a cloud.
Psalm 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Just a little side note: Not only is there a humbleness to downcast eyes, but the force of gravity had Jesus’ blood falling in a downward direction to the FOOT of the cross. And do we not all need to stay put in that place no matter how mature we grow? Going back there just isn’t good enough for me personally. Staying there is my hope and my roadmap for success in this path of salvation, pressing on toward the mark of the high calling of my Savior. And I can’t very well press on, walk the walk, if I’m climbing clouds.
Grounded and rooted in You,
fed and watered for growth
by Your precious blood,
I am humbled in Your presence,
given perseverance for the flood.
Word of God, Light for my feet,
direct me in all truth.
Keep me close to You.
Be the source behind my living
and for everything I ever do.
Your Word, my unfailing Light,
illuminates the path
You designed for me,
giving me perfect direction,
revealing marvelous destiny.
Over the highest mountain,
or through valleys beneath,
I look to Your Lamp:
my compass in the wilderness,
the radiant fire in my camp.
When my arms stretch heavenward,
lifting Your holy name,
my path grows brighter.
Then my eyes fall toward the ground
and my steps are that much lighter,
giving me the confidence
to carry on in You,
easy yoke to bear.
And when the darkness closes in,
I know Your Light will still be there.
