The Power Of Prayer

Specialist Donald Blaine was injured during a night patrol in southeastern Afghanistan. When he later came to, be asked his Specialist Jay Hardy to pray for him as he came to learn he was paralyzed during the mission. Specialist Hardy had no faith that he would recover from the paralysis.

“What good were prayers without any faith?” he said to himself.

As the day wore on, Specialist Hardy felt he was letting his friend down until he remembered some advice his grandmother had once given him: “Always remember this, Jay , During tough times God has a role for everybody to play.”

“So what the heck is my role?” he lamented. “So I guess I’d better pray about it.” After roughly an hour of soul searching, Specialist Hardy came up with an answer. “If I lack faith, there are other who do not have that problem.”

Specialist Hardy was granted time to talk to the chaplain. “Chaplain, my friend was injured while we were out on patrol last night. Now he’s paralyzed. Could you ask for prayer for God’s best for my friend? And could you ask them to strengthen my faith, too? Thanks, chaplain.”

“You bet,” responded the chaplain. I’ll get on it right away. God be with you and your friend. Thanks for coming by, too!”

During his visit with Specialist Blaine, Specialist Hardy informed him of his actions. As they talked, Specialist Hardy suggested he open himself up to the love of God and the power that paryer has.

Fourteeh month came and went. Now state side, citizen Hardy received a thank you note indicating that after months of physical therapy, he would be walking once again.

Happy but stunned by the news, Jay Hardy thought to himself that if someone, in the future, ever ask him to pray for God’s help that his role would be that of an advocate.
