In Matthew 5:3, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven." Recognition is a significant thing. If you do not understand that you need God, you will not seek Him with your whole heart.
You must recognize that you spirit is poor because just like everybody else you have sin in your life. Pride goes before a fall and arrogance will eventually catch up with us. Many in America claim to be Christian but do they really understand that they need to seek God with all their heart.
Some say no to any kind of religion believing that all religions are the same. Christianity has more to offer because Christianity has the virgin birth, the forgiveness of sins, God incarnate, the resurrection, and the return of Christ. No other religion can offer this.
In other religions, you have to work for your salvation and there is no grace or free love. God offers true forgiveness to those who recognize that they are a sinner. To recognize that we are poor in spirit we must humble ourselves before God coming to him like a little child. We cannot pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps no matter how self-sufficient we are, our eternal destiny awaits. Recognizing our spiritual depravity makes us aware of how vulnerable we are.
Others need to recognize how much they need to know him. In addition, they need to know just how poor their spirit is without salvation. We need to communicate to others the love that Christ offers. I have heard people say before they received salvation that they had never thought about being saved or recognized their need for God.
We recognize when a storm is approaching and we must take shelter. Jesus is our shelter or covering from the world. Storms really scare my daughter and she likes to find a good strong place to hide in our house.
Recognition is important in everyday life. Recognition can be discovered, we know it when we have a flat tire. The road signs are there; stop, yield, reduce speed, rail road crossing, and especially bridge out. The signs may not be obvious unless someone is searching for Christ.
Furthermore, even after we are born again we recognize we need him every day. We are blessed (spiritual happiness) because we have a special understanding of our need for God in good times or bad. Recognition causes us to see our need for prayer and Bible study. Recognition shows us how we need God daily. Recognition also warns us when we are low in spirit from neglecting our time spent with God.
Recognizing wisdom is significant because there are two kinds of wisdom in this world a worldly wisdom and a biblical wisdom. Recognition is important when we read 1 Cor. 15:3 that Christ died on the cross for our sins according to the scriptures. Recognizing that Christ died on the cross for our sins is the most significant thing a person can do. According to 1 Cor. 15, Jesus appeared to Peter and the others. Why would the apostles give their lives to follow Christ if they did not know that he had risen from the grave?
Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, in other words, blessed are those who know how much they need God. Whether we could prove that Christ appeared to 500 after the resurrection, or we could prove in court that he existed, as Christ the King reigns one fact always remains millions of lives have been changed. They found they needed Christ.
