Christian Living
There are so many times in our lives when we wish we had someone to help us. Help us understand; help us make the right decision; or show us how to handle a particular problem that has just come up. Sometimes we just wish there was someone we could talk to who really "gets" us! Someone who will stand by us, love us, and be patient with us, and forgiving of us when we mess everything up!
Good news! Your wish can come true, if you will turn your heart and life over to God. So many people think turning your life over to God means you are suddenly going to be handed a list of things you have to give up. I won't mislead you...there will be things that you will find out are no longer considered acceptable if you are going to follow God's plan for your life. It will take some time for you to understand why God wants those things to change, but you will see, over time, that He has your best interest at heart.
There are those among us, unfortunately, who will try to bombard you with a bunch of "Thou Shall Nots" but let me offer you another list. A list of promises: (Please take the time to go to the Bible and read the actual scripture verses. These are not quoted. I have only paraphrased them very briefly.)
Thou Shall Not - have to carry the weight, or guilt, of the sin that has controlled your life anymore, if you take the first step in His direction. (Acts 2:38)
Thou Shall Not - ever be alone again. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. He is able to keep you. (Zephaniah 3:17)
Thou Shall Not - have to rely solely on your own strength to get through the challenges life brings your way. (Psalm 28:7)
Thou Shall Not - fear the future...He has a plan for your life, will equip you for it, and He has written down all the instructions to help you follow it. The Word. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Thou Shall Not - be defeated, no matter what comes your way. He has promised that "all things work together for good..." (Romans 8:28)
Don't be afraid to turn your heart and life over to God. He is not a big mean God who stands there just waiting for you to mess up, so He can punish you! He is a loving God, who is patient and kind and so willing to help you. He never asks anything of you that He is not willing to help you accomplish. Don't try to understand everything right now. Just take it one day at a time. You will learn as you go. He will teach you all you need to know, line upon line, as you follow Him.
There is so much more available to you than you realize. Focus on the promises and the rest will fall into place. Find a good Word-based Church where you can sit under some good sound teaching. Fellowship with other believers. Spend time talking to God. Don't worry about making it "sound" right! Just talk to Him. He loves you; just trust Him! His goodness and love will be made evident to you. He is so faithful!
