People crave the evidence of God. Atheists crave the evidence of God. That's why they call themselves an atheist. They don't know how to fill that void so they give up on God. Are they wrong? Yes of course they need the Lord but I can say for a fact that the act of being an atheist is that attempt, although a feeble one, to believe in something. They happen to believe in not believing there is a God. It cannot work for them. The evidence of God is something even Christians have to deal with at some point. Some may even deal with it daily in the form of doubting darts thrown by Satan himself. The deceiver wants us to question Almighty God on a daily basis instead of letting God's promises sink in that we should constantly walk in them.
Why do people want evidence instead of having faith? Faith won't convict the murderer in a court of law. There must be enough tangible and physical evidence for a jury to believe that the suspect committed the crime. Evidence is paramount in this instance. Shouldn't God provide enough evidence so that everyone will believe that he exists? What if I told you that he has? Maybe in a way that isn't thought of as a usual existence puzzle piece. Will you listen for a moment while I give you a piece of evidence you may have never considered in proving the existence of God.
God is very into changing lives. "Faith without works is dead." "I'll show you my faith by my works." How does this have anything to do with the evidence of God? Here is how. If your life has been changed by submitting and surrendering your life to Jesus Christ, there will be an evident change in your life. There is no way this change can go unnoticed if it's genuine. In other words there will be evidence of God in your life. Your attitude changes. Your mind set changes. These changes in a person can only happen with the help of God himself. You are under the Lordship of Christ. There will be a change that makes God shine through you and therefore is evidence of God in heaven. Not only is true saving faith and a changed life evidence of the existence of God, it draws the unbeliever in for a closer look. Now I see the evidence of God but now I want what I see in that Christian's life. God doesn't stop with just proving his existence. Now comes the life change through another life changed person. The power of God's salvation to bring souls to himself.
There are numerous tales of the prison conversion. The mass murderer finding God in a cell. The drug addict who now calls Jesus their Lord and Savior. Some facing the death penalty turn to the Lord for forgiveness and healing. I don't care if you think some of these conversions are false or that they had no choice but to turn to God. If prison is where they found God then it was his plan to bring them to himself in that way. If a mass murderer can turn and repent and be sorry and change their way of thinking and their life, you must say that there is a God. Who but God can change people like these evil doers. Remember that with God sin is sin. Murder is equal to lying to your parents about taking a cookie from the cookie jar. In our human state we say that these crimes don't compare, but to God they are both acts of sin that fall short of perfection and God's glory. Jesus died on the cross for the murderer as well as the child who takes the cookie and miraculously changes both lives.
When surrender to Christ takes place, God begins to live the life he wants for us through us. The Holy Spirit comes to reside within the new child of God and makes us "a new creation". We have God himself living in us. If that doesn't evoke noticeable change in everything we do, I don't know what will. We will not even know how these changes are taking place because it is the very power of God at work. That's why the change is miraculous and causes the non believer who may need evidence to validate God's existence to take notice. This personal testimony will be the greatest evidence there is. As Christians we need to remember this. Christ is living through us as evidence of His love, forgiveness, and life changing power. The world will see us under the proverbial microscope since we claim Christ and that should be an empowering thought since these lost souls can get a glimpse of God's grace. Our testimony before atheists and unbelievers can make or break their search for the realness of God. Evidence of a life that's been changed by the Creator, a life lived in thanksgiving to him for what he has saved us from, and the eternal hope we possess since our future is secure. You want proof of God's existence? I was on the way to an eternal and hopeless hell, separated from God for all eternity because of the wrong I've done. God himself provided an escape. The only escape by way of the Son of God. He said, I'll show you my existence and prove that I not only exist but love you unconditionally and provide a way back to me. Since God came to this earth as a man to do the job we could not do, he proved once and for all that he exists and saved us to an abundant life. A changed life. A life we could not begin to experience apart from him. That is the existence of God Almighty. The sovereign Lord of heaven and earth. The creator of all things, living and non living. The author and perfecter of the saved and changed life. Only that loving and gracious God could change a life bound for a hopeless eternity and prove his existence in the most unbelievable way.
I had never thought of proving the existence of God in this way before. It's the truest sense. He changed my course of travel. From hell to heaven. My life is therefore changed.
Next time someone wants you to prove there is a God. Tell them of how your life was literally changed by the only one with the power to do it. The Living God.
