In the valley of the shadow blankness overshades the scape;
As the overwhelming darkness puts at risk each step I take.
Then the inky black surrounding seems to ooze in every pore
And the spirit, wretched, beaten slumps defeated to the floor.

Animation is suspended, in a dormancy I float;
In a coma, merely sleeping, wide awake without control?
Former demons come to haunt me with their fangs of venom filled;
Seeking only to destroy...life, and all my efforts, still
With resources all depleted, growing weary of the fight;
I can feel my soul is lapsing into deep, eternal night.
As I blindly grasp at nothing; as my essence starts its fall,
Just a HINT of some illuming, seems to offer hope so small.
Then the hands that clutch at nothing, seem to grip a solid hold,
With the 'ninety-nine' rejoicing, I am led into HIS fold.
On the bleakest of the mountains, in the valley of the shade,
Looms the Presnce of the Shepherd, Who a path, for ALL has made.
From the jaws of near destruction, from the pits of dark despair
He will search without relenting, He can find us ANYWHERE!
