The Practical Teacher

Hi servants of the most High God. I thank God for another opportunity to share His word with you. I was looking over the previous teachings;

1. Different ways God calls us

2. Waiting on God Developing Ministry

3. The Teacher Gift

There is a lot of instruction in these articles to jump start any believer to understanding how to begin their spiritual journey into the calling and gifting God has for them. One thing I do is read something over and over carefully until I grasp the revelation of what I’m reading because its spiritual food and it has to enter beyond my mind and penetrate my human spirit.

Finding Your Place

The biggest problem and constant questions I receive from young Christians is what did God call them to do. I tried to share it thru Joseph’s example in Different Ways God calls us. The reason for that teaching was to show the believer that for 17 years Joseph didn’t know. He was unconsciously living a godly lifestyle as a Christian should also do. Until God gave him a Sure Word concerning his calling as a leader thru a double dream (Gen.37:7-11).

In contrast to what Jesus experienced, Jesus knew early on in His life that He was called to be the Messiah- preacher/teacher of the kingdom of God. Then we read that at the age of 12 He was in the Temple asking profound questions and they were amazed at His answers (Luke 2:42-48)

The idea of linking Joseph and Jesus together to get a picture of how each one was led by God to go thru what they had to experience to enter the ministry is as simple as going along in life by doing God’s will. For Joseph it was opposition after opposition, but he became a great servant in Potipher’s house avoiding temptation, in prison, becoming a servant to the prisoners and the warden and then in Egypt as prime minister.

For Jesus it was;

1. Waiting on God-Growing up spiritually Lk.2:40

2. Seeking God’s wisdom Lk.2:40

3. Increasing God’s grace in His life Lk.2:40

4. Asking deep biblical questions Lk.2:42

5. Sharing His insight about the things He learned Lk.2:42-48

6. Being about His Father’s business Lk.2:49

7. Continued to increase in wisdom, statue and in favor of God and man Lk.2:52

Seeing Yourself in their Shoes

Part of maturing to be a servant of God and becoming a great bible teacher is to see where you are in your walk of faith. You may be going thru difficult times, but Joseph remained faithful- we can also remain faithful.

In fact, when we go thru hard times God is refining us and we are actually learning how to overcome the situation by trusting God and applying the faith we need and building experience for a future testimony so we may share it as a practical teacher when God tells us too.

Until we receive a Sure Word that God is actually calling us to the teaching ministry we must remain faithful in whatever we are involve in. We must continue learning to be better Christians. Living a book of Acts lifestyle by reading the word of God daily, fasting and praying to gain revelation from scripture so we may apply it and build our sensitivity to the Spirit of God. Until God affirms and confirms that He wants us to enter the teaching ministry.

Following the Master

If we ever want to make it as a bible teacher we need to follow after someone who is an awesome example. Jesus is our example. If we consider what He did to get there by applying the 7 things mentioned above then we will be effective teachers.

1. Growing up spiritually- is important to becoming a great example as a servant of God. Walking in the Spirit, living in the Spirit and being a spiritual Christian will allow you to become a mentor to others 1 Thess.4:1/Galatians 5:16-26

2. Seeking God’s wisdom-is done by prayer Eph.1:16-23/ James 1:5. Reading scripture 2Tim.2:15/ Acts 17:11. Applying the word James 1:22.

3. By increasing the grace of God (see Power, Grace and Faith article)James 4:1-6/Lk.2:40

4. Asking deep questions Prov.10:14/14:15/15:28

5. Sharing your thoughts Titus 2:1/Eph.4:29/Col.4:5-6

6. Be about the Father’s business Lk.2:49/Col.4:17

7. Continue to increase 1Thess.4:10

This is the practical way of becoming a great bible teacher. God appoints the office 1Cor.12:28. Jesus gave us this gift Eph.4:11. We cannot go to Bible College to get it because it’s a supernatural gift that’s given to us by the Father and the Lord Jesus. We learned thru Jesus’ example how we are to refine the gift.

You see, my wife is an elementary teacher she had to take early childhood courses and everything pertaining to being an elementary teacher from the fat textbooks that have practical proven methods of reaching out to kids academically. She’s well versed in that area of teaching but she doesn’t have a clue of how to teach scripture. I’m sharing the word with her here and there and she reads these articles and helps me print them out to share as handouts.

So becoming a bible teacher is a God thing not a college educated thing. However, we can use some teaching methods that are utilized in textbooks to share the word only after we become acquainted with the word of God and experience it ourselves.

For example, in 2001 when I was teaching bible studies in Spanish. God told me to outline the topic of meditation I did not know how until the Holy Spirit said, who told us to meditate?... what should we meditate on?... where can we meditate?... how do we meditate?... when can we meditate?….So the way its outlined in the article is what the Holy Spirit led me to write.

In 2004, when I started college I was in writing class and the textbook I had referred this style of writing as the six reporter’s questions to write an essay. I was shocked that I experienced this kind of leading to write this way to later find out that this is how professional writers develop their articles. Praise God.

I did not go to Bible College to learn this, God supernaturally led me to write like that then I later found out that this is how pros do it.

So in my next article I want to share how teachers study to bring out scripture ‘Rightly dividing the word of truth’. May God bless you in Jesus’ name, amen.
