THE BATTLE IS OVER

Swords clanged and clashed,
Flashes of lightening,
Reflections from blood stained machetes;
Guns boomed and banged,
Shouts, cries -
Of victor or vanquished
I know not.
Noise, troublesome noise;
Pains, written on every face,
Blood flowed from
Arteries and veins.
The dead and the dying
Bound together in an embrace of death;
Teeth are as clenched as fists,
Thunder rolled in the heavens
As confusion rolled in my heart.
Hope was dead in my chaos…

Swords bent and broken,
Clattered to the floor
Guns empty of ammunition
Sang silently.
Cries were stilled on every lip
Silence engulfed the battle ground
I looked up...
The sun has risen
Somewhere in the sky;
The storm has died
Sometime in the night;
The battle is over
Somehow in my mind.
Though the scars remain
Victor or vanquished
I know not.

I am down but not out,
I am bent but not broken
I am beaten but not disgraced
I am slashed but not slain
I lie among the dead,
Myself alive
A miracle, yes, has happened here.
Tears, streaming tears
Victor or vanquished
I know not
Beauty, beauty
I dream again.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed 2 Cor 4:8,9

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us Rom 8:37
