Poetry
Listen to the traffic beep!
That's the sound of all the sheep
running 'round within the churches,
And the doves upon their perches
Cooing mournful little tunes.
Don't you love their cute cartoons?
Hear the money hit the coffer.
"Is that all you have to offer?"
Say the men beneath the hoods,
While taking money for their goods
At costly rates of sacrifice.
"Our jobs," they say, "are oh so nice!"
"Watch us fleece our little flock
Dressed up in a shepherd's frock.
As they put their money in,
We absolve them of their sin."
But suddenly a man steps in!
On his face there is no grin.
A cord of whips is in his hand;
From his lips a reprimand.
"A filthy place is this thieves' den!
You've got until the count of ten
To get your merchandise away!
Out you go, and out you'll stay!"
The tables he does overturn.
How our stomachs, they do churn!
We hear him say, "God's will be done!"
But as for us it's not much fun.
Now he tells us that we're fired!
How on earth has this transpired?
What He did just burns us up,
Like tea leaves in a bitter cup!
Financial wizards peep and mutter,
"There goes all our bread and butter.
'Cause he said it's too much clutter.
Now we're lying in the gutter!"
He shall His holy Father please.
A fire burns His enemies.
It goes before Him pure and clean,
Refiner's fire. See the sheen
As it dissolves impurities.
Get we now upon our knees
And call for God to send the fire.
His Holy zeal will take us higher,
Setting loose His mighty plan.
Do we His people understand?
Into the thief's house He does come
Unannounced, without a drum.
He comes to set His people free
For a glorious destiny!
Refiner's fire, burning bright!
What was wrong will be made right!
Come, Lord Jesus, send the fire.
Come, Lord Jesus, take us higher.
Come, Lord Jesus, come, we say.
For you're the truth and you're the way.
Comfort us and heal our land.
Help us all to understand.
Melt the dross and cleanse each stain,
And send to us the latter rain.
