It was a special Sunday morn
Three women huddled together
Hearts heavy, bearing spices in their hands
Trudged along the rocky path towards a solemn tomb
Hewn in the garden rock.
Their mission to anoint the body
Of their beloved Christ and Lord.

Alas! On reaching the heavily guarded place
Dismay and surprise takes over!
The stone has been rolled back; the tomb lies empty.
They are frantic and distraught in their search for him.

Presto! An Angel appears in shining armor
To announce the jubilant news
The Lord has Risen!

One of the woman hears her name being called
The gardener is looking intently at her.
She recognizes the Lord and moves to hold him.
However, He forbids her to do so
He has yet to ascend to the Father.

Her joy knows no bounds.
She hastens to relate the good news
To the frightened apostles.
Disbelief at first; they rush to the tomb
The woman is right, the Lord is nowhere in sight.
Their hearts rejoice in marvelous exultation.
Calvary wasn’t the end
In fact, it has just begun all over again.

The same Easter evening
Doors bolted and locked
The Lord appears in their midst.
They revel in His resurrection.

These were the First Easter people
The true witnesses of those times.
Today, we continue to be the same Easter people
Celebrating the paschal legacy
Of Salvation and Eternal life.
We face not just the rising sun
But the Risen Son himself!
