Why Water?

Jesus was a prolific linguist, always ready with the right words to illustrate the meaning of His intent. In John 4:13 & 14,Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that "whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst again."

What's in water that makes it so special that Jesus used it as an analogy? Through the years, the healing power of water taken internally and used externally has been explored. Nutritionists tell us that we must drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to insure proper cleansing of our bodies. Father Sebastian Kneipp was an Austrian priest who lived from 1821-1897. He reportedly cured himself from a lung disease by plunging into ice cold water every day for many months. Today, many people enjoy a hot tub as a soothing and relaxing antedote to an arduous day. When one's body is vexed with a crippling disease, exercise in water is often the only available means of stretching and providing cardiovascular fitness. Many people enjoy listening to the sound of water and find the ocean's waves relaxing.

Indeed, while water is something that we cannot survive without, it also provides healing, comfort, and relaxation. How appropriate that Jesus speaks to us of the eternal wellspring of living water that provides spiritual wellness for our bodies, minds, and spirits. By drinking His water of the Word and the Spirit, the thirst of our souls is quenched , we are daily cleansed, healed, comforted, and exercised in our faith.

What a cool revelation! I am so blessed by it and so glad that I found it. Now, I do believe I'll get off here and have some of that refreshing Water from the Word.
