All In A Days Work (with God)

“Lord, it’s 0200 hours, and I can’t sleep,” lamented Staff Sergeant Marci Corbin. “We’ve got a field trainning exercise starting at 0500 hours and I’m not sure if I’ve done everything that needs to be done. I should have more confidence as I’ve done these exercises more than a dozen times.”

Yesterday Staff Sergeant Corbin chewed out her staff even though everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do. They did not respond to her anger but she knew the staff was hurt.

It was just that she was tired and the staff was, for the most part , new at preparing a Chemical unit for a Battalion level training exercise. So she thought to herself.

Staff Sergeant Corbin could not believe she ate a box and a half of vanilla waffers without a drop of milk or water. “All of these sugar, sodium and pink that I ate. I probably ought to be sick! I haven’t eaten that much junk since I was a teenager.”

On the way to the training site, Staff Sergeant Corbin came very close to destroying a military vehicle. She was fortunate that a falling limb caught her attention otherwise she might have, in addition to vehicle damage, cause inury to herself.

The she recalled the two soldiers she witnessed in the hospital. One soldier broke his leg while running to prepare for his physical readiness test. His injuries means that he may not be able to test for maybe two years. When he is able to be fit enough to test, he may not be able to test without difficulty or with skill that he had prior to the injury. “What a bumber,” she thought. The other soldier had just returned from a tour in Iraq with a strange disease that no one can seem to solve. In the meantime, his symptoms continued to get worse. “Life is just not fair! And maybe God is not fair, either.” Staff Sergeant Corbin murmured under her breath.

Within an hour of the training, Staff Sergeant Corbin thought, “You know God, I’m really sorry I’ve bother You with all of these dumb issues. When I think about, You’ve so much more than I have on my plate. Shoot, You have all these humans yelling at You. Calling You dumb or don’t exist. Still others want stuff or too lazy to do what they need to do. Yeah, you help, Lord, but we can d omore than what we do. I’m putting my issues on the table now because I need help. Your help. Just a few things I’m just not sure of and burden my mind. You said to come to You with what burdens you and You’ll make them light. I’m prayin’ for this before I go nuts!”

Staff Sergeant Corbin’s part of the field training exercise went very well for her Chemical unit. At the conclusion of the training, she prayed. “Thanks, Lord! Could I ask You one more thing? Can you give me a new day tomorrow? I’ll try to do a much better job with a brand new day. Oh, by the way, thanks again!”
