Sergeant Karen Bolt, though only 24 years old, was one of the most devout Christian women in Company C. No matter the uniform, Sergeant Bolt carried a Bible of some form on her person. Even in instance when she wore her exercise uniform or wear without a pocket, she would carry a laminated Bible verse or passage in her sock. At any time, Sergeant Bolt, without being overbearing, would express verbally that it was her faith that helped her succeed in her personal and military life.

She had no problem mixing religion, social and business when conversing with friend or foe. She could be heard to say, Why believe something if you have no intention of living it each and every day. I’ve never forced anyone to see anything my way.”

Sergeant Bolt, no matter what unit she was assigned, is said by her leadership to be a model soldier. Even those who opposed her boldly exhibiting her Christianity marveled at her kindness when mocked or put down because of her beliefs.

A soldier, during Holy Week on Good Friday, visited Sergeant Bolt to try to find out how she dealt with the hatred she received almost constantly. She responded: “It is interesting that you should visit me on the day Christ was crucified for having done nothing wrong. Like Christ, I never start or end my day without first spending a couple of minutes on my knees asking the Lord for guidance and to forgive those who hate Him so much. I know I’m not the one they hate. I’m nothing more than a messenger. What I say and do is the Lord’s after I have given Him my life for the day. He had always given me the guidance I need and the messages to do what I need to do that are His work in reality.”

The questioning soldier was so impressed by Sergeant Bolt’s explanation that she because a Christian within fourteen months of conservations with her. The former atheist came to realize that her new life never lets a person down nor lets a person let anyone else down when one accept the Christian life. After all, as Sergeant Bolt said, the Lord is in charge and nothing can nor will go when this is the case.
