As I shop for my groceries completely lost in my menu
I am haunted by my crying ghost
It’s haunting me on more than one level
And it scares me and worries me to my uttermost
I hear it the next aisle over with its loud menacing tone
It is the sad cry of an unloved child a child whose parent
Screams for it to shut up as I am chilled to the bone
I find myself wanting to run and wanting to fight
And praying this parent will someday see the Light
I am haunted by my past and my all too real fear
That this ghost haunts my own child when I am not near.
I go back in time
To remember my major crime
I was my father’s son
And that was enough to convict me
To lock me up and throw away the key
I would pay for his crimes my mother would say
Because he had escaped and went on his way
Now I live in daily fear of the crying ghost
That over in the next aisle with the screaming child
Is the one that I love the most?
As I too escaped my marital prison
Having to leave behind the one
That stays in my mind the most
And fearing all the while she is
Being haunted by this awful crying ghost
