Blessed Persistence

Following a very tiring and difficult three day field training exercise, Sergeant Alvin Kemp showered then sat down to a large plate of hot wings, pizza and iced tea in his barrack room. Next he turned on his television to a wildlife program with a bear trying to get honey out of a fallen tree trunk.

The bear frantically struck the dead tree many times in his attempt to increase the size of the hole to get at the sweet treat inside as a swarm of bee hovered about its head and upper body. The huge bear its attention from the tree to the bees swinging with both paws but to no avail. It gave a loud roar then ran towards the nearby river until the bees left. Though wet and probably full of bee stings, the bear refused to give up. Within about thirty minutes of the previous encounter, the bear was out of the river and back at the spot where it resumed its attempts to get honey from the tree. Striking the tree with a solid blow, he was able to make a large enough hole to enjoy paw after paw of honey. The bear’s reward for his persistence.

Have you ever attempted a task that appeared extremely difficult or impossible? And have you had family, friends and associates ridicule your attempts to continue on with tasks that failed many times before? Then with some adjustments as well as a request from God to bless your effort did it finally succeed?

In many, many cases people give up to achievable tasks only because they had to deal with difficulty. But when people ask for God’s assistance with continued persistence tasks that seemed impossible became possible. Too many, lament not having what they want or need because they simply do not want to put forth effort. Rather, they because envious of the gifts bestow upon those who often passed through hardships not know to the envious. So the next time, you hear naysayers complain about the possessions of others, ask them what they had to endure to achieve their prosperity. Perhaps, you may learn why you have not achieved some of the things in life you desire.
