Larry Lilly's Letter Wed April 6, 2011

As are most people with a dispensational outlook on scripture, I have been watching events in the Mid-East along with Tsunami activity, earthquakes in "divers" places and the intensifying hatred of Israel as a nation and of Jews as individuals. Add to this the now open rejection of Christians and Christ with a venom unseen in modern times.

The temptation to keep our focus on these supposed "signs of the times" to the exclusion of primary Bible teaching is very strong. That we must pay attention to the primary is of utmost importance and "me thinks" (A little Spurgeon here) it is paramount that we do as Jesus said in Mark 13:32-33:

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

The main instruction to people of faith is to be taking personal inventory, such as, "Am I really born again, Am I abusing God's grace as a Christian? Is my life a light or part of the darkness engulfing the time?" The list goes on, but you get the idea.

Martin Luther was asked one time what he would do if he knew Jesus was coming the next day and he answered, "I would hoe my garden."

We who confess the name are to live each moment with the assurance that Christ is living within and is sharing His resurrection life with us moment by moment.

Evangelist Andy Tully sent a nice note commenting on one of my daily letters and in the text he encouraged me to do something that in my opinion is in harmony with the biblical idea of Christ's coming:

"Keep your eyes up and your knees down."

This is near our Lord's instruction to "Watch and Pray." Since being converted to Christ at age 20, I have wondered why the song, "Happy Day" with such a wonderful message has such a mournful tune. The lyrics posit that I am to watch and pray and live REJOICING every day. Why then the sad music? Just saying..

John, who with his head laying upon the chest of Jesus heard His heart beating for the needs of a lost dying world, wrote concerning the purpose and power of the coming of Christ again made application to our personal walk here 1 John 3:3:

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

With this blessed hope burning in my heart, I will pray while Joyce hoes the garden.
