As she lay there smiling up at me
I was overwhelmed by her beauty
All the hard days and unpleasant words
Leading up to this precious moment
Vanished like an early morning mist
Like someone else’s forgotten dreams

The disagreements and misunderstandings
The angry words and selfish thoughts
The impatience and incrimination
Her sickness and my pain
That had all conspired against this union
Were now forgotten
In an instant of mutual surrender

Our bodies had melded into holy oneness
Each of us giving all for the sake of the other
And now the glorious explosion of mutual desire
Ebbed with each slowing breath
Allowing our now unencumbered love
To experience the miracle of the moment
The moment that all true lovers rejoice to see
The moment I ever long for
When desire has passed into satisfaction
And untamed ecstasy gives way to quiet love

Where hunger’s time is done
And sweet savor has begun
The savoring of the deliciousness of her lips
With unhurried kisses
The intoxicating aroma of her skin
Her hair like fine silk under my touch
The softness of her eyes and the music of her voice
Slow lingering touches
And gentle words of love and devotion

This is my moment to immerse myself
In the miraculous Gift of her
All she is and all she is yet to be
All she has given and all she has yet to give
To be enveloped in her grace and beauty
Until I am drowning in it
And then to be lifted up by her love

This is the place and this is the moment
Where the Divine meets the sinner
Where the Eternal meets the temporal
Where the Perfect meets the flawed
Where true love is breathed into being
And true lovers race in to embrace it

This is the place of our fulfilled longings
The place where we surrender to love and to being loved
The place where our hearts are finally at home
