Last night my son, who is five, started yelling for help. He had climbed to the top bunk bed and was too scared to climb back down. I tried to help him get down but he was hanging on for dear life. I kept telling him to let go that I had him but he refused to turn loose of the bed post. After struggling for a moment I said to him, “I’ve got you but you have to let go so that I can help you. You know I’m not going to let you fall. Let go so that I can help you.”

Even before I had all the words out of my mouth, it struck me right in my spirit. How often has God tried to tell me the same thing! How often do I hold on when He is trying to tell me to let go? I know God knows what’s best for me and yet I still try to hang on to things when He is telling me to let go.




Lord,
Help me to let go of the things I am hanging on to when I should be letting them go. Show me how to let go and put my trust fully in You. I know that You know what is best for me, and You will take care of me. Show me the things that I am hanging on to that are just holding me back. I don’t want to hang on to anything that is not in Your will. I place all my trust in You, Father.
