Sripture Reading: KJV Proverbs 10:22, "The blessing of the Lord it maketh Rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it."

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

Dr. Dan Sampson's first wife had passed away and he remarried the lovely Nancy, who had served as a missionary in Asia. She assumed the care of his two young children, ages 5 and 6, and now they longed for a child together. After several yers of prayer, the Lord blessed and Nancy would bear a child. As the months progressed their friends planned a baby shower as everyone's joy and expectation mounted. Indeed, no one deserved this happiness more than Nancy as she had lovingly and sacrifically mothered her two step-children.

Finally, in the early morning hours of a Tuesday, Dan and Nancy headed to the hospital, for she was in labor! Friends were contacted by the pre-arranged phone tree, so all could pray for a safe delivery. When their pastor arrived at the hospital he found Dr. Dan standing in the hallway weeping. The pediatrician had confirmed that their newborn son was born with downs syndrome. In the blink of an eye, all their expectations had changed. They had imagined a life together with a gifted child - now they would face the challenges of rearing a child with special needs.
One year later Dr. Dan and Nancy have discovered the unexpected joy wrapped in their son. Enthusiastically they support other parents of downs syndrome children, knowing that "every good and perfect gift is from above", as it says in James 1:17(a) (NIV).

Prayer: Lord, let us look for yoru blessings, rather than live in despair, when in a blink of an eye our hopes and dreams take an unexpected turn. Amen.
