We as humans tend to live life in a halfway type of manner. Many things we start and never finish. We pick things up only to put them down again, half-read books, half-finished needlework, half done works of art.

I admit this statement also can be attributed to most of my christian walk. And I bet it accounts for a lot of yours as well. We certainly find it hard to finish things as humans, but isn’t it even harder to stick out the tough things in life? I am sure we will all agree being a Christian is no easy walk. Sure we are not persecuted as our ancestors were, sure we are not stoned and taunted in the streets. But none the less our walk is hard. We struggle to be all that God wants us to be, we struggle to reach out to non Christians, to be an example of His love. But it is hard because after all who could measure up to Him? And so a lot of us (myself included) flounder in that halfway limbo of Christianity. What I will call a “halfway Christian” Sound familiar, I am sure it does, because I will bet you, most of us have been there.

You know the place, you may or may not go to church every Sunday, you still truly believe but you have no works and no heart behind it. You may find yourself sinking slowly, looking at inappropriate things, listening to inappropriate music, telling yourself it’s ok just this one time. Just for now, just for a while. And then that just for a while becomes just awhile longer, until you have lost your way. You no longer pray like before, you have stopped seeking His counsel. You begin to make excuses why going to church is not so important, you begin to hang around unchristian like people, and you find yourself following their lead. You find yourself in the dark, alone, and you know that familiar pain. That familiar doubt that begins to spread. The master of all lies has found you, the great deceiver knows the moment you are weak and have gotten lost in the woods. The deceiver comes along with fancy words and fancy lies and convinces you to follow him, he will lead you out of the woods and oh the fun you will have. Sound familiar? Do you know how I know your heart so well? Because that was me, I was lost also, I let the great deceiver lie to me. Don’t let him lie to you, turn away, his promises are false, his deception is great.

Do you begin to see how there really is no halfway point when you are a Christian? Do you see how when you let your guard down, the devil has an opening? And trust me he will take his opening every time. If this is you, if you are in the dark and the great deceiver has told you his lies, turn away. Fall to your knees and ask God to light your life again, it’s that easy, He wants you to ask and that’s all you have to do. And when you let Him, every broken piece of the puzzle will suddenly fall into place. He knows how to heal your pain and suffering. He knows your heart so well, after all He created it!

Don’t ever stop working on this path we call Christianity, it takes work, we must be refined by the fire. It takes time, God knows we will make mistakes. But He always forgives us. There is no halfway Christian, there is only good and evil. Please know where you stand. And make a choice to stand for God. Let His fire burn within you, you are a work of art God is waiting to finish, let him. Don’t be caught in limbo when the time comes that it really counts.
