A man, whom I will name Ahmed, came boldly to the United States Army 75th Division Field Hospital with his desperately ill daughter. “Help me!” he pleads in English. My daughter fell sick a few hours ago and isn’t getting any better. I’ve tried everything.”
“Let me take a look,” responded Captain Lois Talton. “Don’t be afraid, sir. We’ll do everything we can to make your daughter well again. Give us a few hours. I sincerely believe we will be able to find out what the problem is. Could you sit right over here? I’ll get back with you as soon as we know something.”
“Thank you,” he quickly responded. “With your help, I believe God will help you heal my daughter. Do you believe in God?”
“Yes, I do, sir. He is here with us. Let us put everything in His hands.”
“I believe as you do. I am a Christian like you. I will accept whatever God has for me and my daughter. I will pray for you and your people that are helping us.”
“Your faith is impressive. As we do our work, I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. I’ll be back soon, sir.”
After roughly 40 minutes, Captain Talton returned. “Sir, we found the problem. Your daughter suffers a scorpion sting. She is doing fine but I’d like to keep her here for the remainder of the day for observation. We do this just to make sure everything is alright. You may see her now.”
“Bless you! Thanks be to God!” declared Ahmed.
“I agree. You’re faith and quick action helped tremendously,” acclaimed Captain Talton.
Ahmed and Captain Talton’s faith have been spiritually changed. A brush with death had brought both Ahmed and Captain Talton face to face to a living and loving God. A father’s faith in God’s ability to conquer anything as well as a physician’s faith and her willingness to utilize her God given knowledge prevented a child’s death. Both, in their separate ways, turned to God for help His help. And they both received it. Such faith is a living legacy passed on from one generation of believers to the next whether he or she be a parent or a professional.
Blessed indeed is today’s child who receives their father’s gift of faith—strong, unwavering and, in this instance, Ahmedlike!
