Christian Living
Okay so it's Fat Tuesday. The day to drink and well, live it up in sin to your heart's content. What's the harm? You will be spending the next forty days giving up something as you try to live as holy as you can. And God understands, right? Wrong!
Check out what old man John said about it. "My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." - 1 John 2:1 (NASB)
The "if" is in the third class condition, meaning, maybe you will, maybe you won't. In other words, you can choose not to sin. Paul taught in Romans 6:11 - 12, you are dead to sin, alive in Christ, and as a result, you should not let sin have rule in your life.
That's a far cry from the characteristics of Fat Tuesday.

I've always been "confused" by the whole Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras thing too. I'm always reminded of Romans 6:1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? ... Thanks for writing these relevant thoughts for today.
