"And when you stand praying, forgive if you have aught against anyone; that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive your sins. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your sins. Mark 11:25, 26

The last phrase of v. 25 rolls off our tongues so glibly: are we really listening with our hearts to what we are saying? Do we recognize even as we speak the words, how dependent our own forgiveness is upon our forgiveness of everyone else? Then, do we just routinely go on our way judging others, guilty as charged? Not even thinking for a moment that we are jeopardizing our own forgiveness?

Those words, AS WE FORGIVE OTHERS, are powerfuly motivational as to how we conduct our daily lives, how we interact with family, friends, acquaintances and brothers and sisters in Christ. They constitute the scale upon which our own justification will be weighed. We lightly skip over the last phrase of that Scripture at our eternal peril.
