WISDOM MAKES A SPEECH


Wisdom walks in the streets
where the common people walk.
Walking in the shopping malls,
where the people shop.
She walks by City Hall
where City business is performed,
saying in Her loudest voice;

“Oh people, please be warned!”

“How long, simple ones,
will you love simplicity?
How long will the scorners
delighted by scorning be?
How long will fools
hate the knowledge of Me?
Listen to Me! Hear My reproof!
I will pour out My Spirit upon You,
My words you’ll understand.
You will have success and
peace through out all your land.

Be advised, you would be wise
to hear what I say; but
when I’ve called and you’ve refused,
and mocked and turned away,
I will laugh at your calamity,
on your fearful day, when fear
and destruction, distress and
anguish as a whirlwind to you come,
then you will call upon Me,
but to you I won't come!

You hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear
of Almighty God, you would not hear
My counsel and you despised
the chastening rod.
Therefore, you shall live the fruit
of your own choice because,
with arrogance you refused
to hear My pleading voice.

This is the truth,
and shall forever be,
fools shall be ruined
by their prosperity;
and the simple of mind,
who thought themselves
full of capability shall find
the destruction that they chose
from their rebellious thinking mind.

But this I say to the truly wise,
those who hear and practice what I say,
“You shall be free of fear
and live safely all your days.”

I have loved the speeches that Wisdom makes in the first three chapters of the Book of Proverbs. I have envisioned myself dressing in a garment like the Dutch Cleanser Girl (because it hides the face) and preaching, using a recitation of the Words of Wisdom.

This poem is a paraphrase of chapter 1 of the Book of Proverbs.

I believe this message and those like it to be very critical to the Church of today.

I don't hear warnings coming from the pulpit.
