Even though much of the United Nations’s agenda is hidden in many of its environmental treaties, it is also very open concerning its major objective of global governance. During the Millennium Assembly on September 6, 2000, which was held in New York City, the United Nations announced its goal to formulate plans to restructure the organization in an attempt to control the nations of the world. This group of world leaders, which was the largest meeting of this kind, made plans to change how governments operate. The United Nations would then assume leadership role of governing these nations. The sovereignty of nations would then be turned over to the UN. All nations would become partners in the United Nations’s governance of the world. (1)

The new United Nations charter that was written at the Millennium Assembly will replace the original charter that was written in 1945. The purpose of the new charter is to create new procedures for the operation of governments within and without the boundaries of their nation. According to LeRoy Donnelly in his article “Chapter 99-A Farewell to Sovereignty,” the new charter for Global Democracy attempts to destroy America’s heritage and way of life. Therefore, it is important that Americans and the rest of the world take a closer look at the underlying meaning of these principles. The summary of the Charter for Global Democracy is as follows:

• The UN will have control over all governments, all international companies and financial institutions, the land, the sea, and the air. Much of the UN's agenda will be dictated by the over 1600 non-governmental organizations (NGO's), many of which are radical left-wing organizations, such as Green Peace, the National Organization of Women, the ACLU and the Sierra Club.
• The UN will be able to tax at will, regulate at will, and police at will.
• They will have courts to judge according to their criteria, not the United States Constitution or the Bill of Rights, and the judgments rendered will be without appeal.
• The United States will lose its veto power, and will become just one of the 192 member states, most of which are socialist/communist and decidedly anti-American.
• There will be a redistribution of the wealth of nations, and it is clear from previous UN actions that the wealth of the U.S., including our natural resources, will be targeted first.
• Freedom of speech will be replaced with Big Brother. Freedom of religion will be replaced with a new world-religion that is decidedly anti-Christian. The right to bear arms will be abolished. An international police force and UN army will be established. (1)

Therefore, as seen in the summary of the United Nations’s Charter for Global Democracy, the United States and the proposed global community would face many serious problems. One major problem is the United Nations’s goal to usurp the American citizen’s right, according to the Bill of Rights, to bear arms. In fact, it is the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. At the UN Conference on the Illicit Trade of Small Arms and Light Weapons in July 2001, United Nations’s diplomats purposed to remove firearms from the global communities that they hope to control some day. According to Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2007, “Let us resolve, therefore: To take energetic action to curb the illegal traffic in small arms, notably by 'Creating greater transparency in arms transfers' supporting regional disarmament measures, such as the moratorium on the importing, exporting or manufacturing of light weapons...” (2) Therefore, it is the responsibility of the people of the United States to protect our Bill of Rights, regardless of the desires of international bureaucrats to take away our Second Amendment rights. Hopefully, the United States will never support the ideology of dictatorial governments that attended this conference.

Another problem that the United Nations proposes for the nations of the world is a new constant revenue source for its operation and for environmental issues. This new source of revenue would be a Tobin Tax. This tax proposal would include a tax on aircraft and shipping fuels. It would also require the use of the global commons area to be licensed. This area would include non-territorial seas, outer space, and any similar environment that sustains human life. It is amazing what can be taxed on planet Earth! But, just like so many other government programs, the control of the environment by the government would eventually destroy it through mismanagement and neglect. (3) However, with $100-$300 billion dollars generated from the Tobin tax, the United Nations would become a financially sound entity. It would allow the United Nations the ability to clean up the earth’s environment. (4) However, would the UN use the money for the environment as stated or would the UN use the money for global governance? The answer would determine the future of the world.

Therefore, it is obvious that the United Nations is at full throttle to gain control of the world, especially the United States. Many people believe that the United Nations is a threat to America’s sovereignty. However, many people in America accept the United Nations’s global agenda. Sadly, many of these people are the men and women of the United States Congress. They have signed many international treaties that are responsible for the erosion of America’s national sovereignty. They have accepted a new definition of national sovereignty that requires American citizens to support and defend the principles of the United Nations’s charter instead of the United States Constitution. As a result, since sovereignty is synonymous with independence, America must wake up and fight back before it loses the freedom that it cherishes.

Also, this new sovereignty goes against the precepts of George Washington and the Founding Fathers. They promoted the doctrine of “separatism.” The Founding Fathers wanted a good relationship with all nations but did not want to get involved with their local problems. They would not have signed any treaty or agreement that would surrender the control of America over to the United Nations. (5) As George Washington stated during his farewell address, “…Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government.” (5) Also, Washington said “The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible.” (5) However, many of our present leaders have signed entangling alliances with the United Nations. This is the reason why America is on the verge of being ruled by the United Nations as it seeks global governance of all the nations of the world.

Ultimately, many people believe that it is time for the United States to declare their independence from the United Nations. According to Tom DeWeese, president of the American Policy Center, “The United Nations is not ‘dysfunctional,’ as some ‘reformists’ have claimed. It is a criminal enterprise in which no moral nation should ever participate, let alone perpetuate.” (6) The United Nations has a false sense of legitimacy based on the support of the member nations. Unfortunately, the United States is one of those supporting nations. In fact, America finances a major part of the UN’s budget. It is time for the United States to stop supporting this infamous, socialist group of world leaders. Of course, this is one of the greatest fears that the United Nations has at present. If the United States removes itself from the UN, the United Nations would not be able to function properly. This would be one of the greatest events of the 21st Century. (6)

In conclusion, one very important question should be asked: Does the United Nations work to achieve what its name indicates? For sixty-five years, the United Nations has supposedly been the place for warring nations to settle their differences without actually fighting a deadly war. But, apparently the UN has become an enlarged camp of world leaders who promote their own grandiose goals. As a result, these leaders have refused to accept the responsibility to make the world a peaceful, prosperous, and secure place to live. Therefore, it is past time for the United States to abandon its relationship with the United Nations. If the United States is to remain a free nation, it must not surrender its national sovereignty to the United Nations. America must stop financing the operation of the United Nations that is attempting to usurp its national sovereignty, too. If not, America could be caught up in the bitter agenda that the United Nations has planned for creating a new world order, which includes a one world government, a one world military, a one world religion, and a one world economy. (6)
