Faith

My Father,
if it be possible,
let this cup

will IS, Lord."

"It's not FAIR;
they say we should all
pray, like Jesus did."

[SILENCE.]

"But.....if JESUS... WAS
Who He said He WAS.....
then, He would have KNOWN
exactly what the FATHER was
thinking.....at all TIMES. And,
us plain little HUMANS....heck,
WE don't know.....NOTHIN'!"

[TENDER SMILE.]
"If,
My beloved?"

(Squirm.)
"Yeah.
You heard me: IF."

[SMILE.]
"Ah."

"The way I figure it,
the Will of God is whatever
we happen to be doin',
at this particular MOMENT."

[NOD.]
"I see."

(Nod.)
"Yeah.
Right now, I'm eatin' 2
strawberry popsicles over
a Little Debbie brownie."

[CHUCKLE.]

"In a bowl. Ya can't eat
it, any other way; it gets
too messy."

[SIGH.]
"I would choose
a much healthier snack
for you,
My precious."

(Dipping a piece of
brownie into the strawberry
ice-mush.)
"SEE? Well.....then,
I'm ALMOST in Your WILL!
I'm eatin' a SNACK."

[SIGH.]

"Maybe, He was just
a crazy person."

"Who,
My beloved?"

"Ya know........JESUS."

[QUIET VOICE.]
"Ah.
I see."

"Yeah;
and, so what if He
performed MIRACLES?
LOTS of people did, in
the Old Testament! How
about JOSHUA asking the
day to be overly-long?
Or, David and GOLIATH?
Or.....all those things that
Moses did with his STAFF?
REMEMBER? He turned it
into a SNAKE! And, what
about the parting of the
RED SEA?"

[NOD.]

"Why did JESUS run around,
kicking over everything
in the TEMPLE.....ANYWAY?
That seems like a meshu'gunah,
to me."

[SMILE.]

"I feel like I can't just
accept Jesus,
willy-nilly......
without questioning Him
some, at LEAST."

[NOD.]
[SMILE.]

"Ya know;
considering
my ROOTS,
and all."

[TURN TO HIS LEFT.]
[GLANCE.]
[CHUCKLE.]

(Tipping the bowl for
one last swallow
of pink syrup.)
"JEWS aren't supposed
to believe in JESUS;
it's kind of like
a faux pas*."

[NOD.]
[TENDER VOICE.]
"Why do you,
My child?"

(Licking one syrupy
popsicle stick
and then, the other.)
"Don't KNOW.
He just seems like a
fascinating PERSON...
to me. He said such outrageous THINGS."

[BURST OUT LAUGHING.]

"And, He certainly yelled
at those Pharisees, a lot.
That was probably pretty
courageous, back in those days."

[NOD.]
[PATIENT PAUSE.]
"What is My Will
for you,
child?"

"For ME?"
(Shrug.)
(Sip some watered-down
soda**.)
"I DUNNO! I GUESS
WHATEVER I'M DOIN'
RIGHT NOW!"

[TENDER SMILE.]

(Mumble.)
"Talkin' about JESUS......"

[TENDER GAZE.]
[SMILE.]
