Encouragement

Before my time with the Lord, I had no Spirit. I was a child of the world and had no idea of what the ‘truth’ that surrounded me was. Without the Holy Spirit … we do not have the ability to truly hear our heavenly Father.

After accepting Christ, something happened. It was like all things that I knew, or thought I knew … were new. New sights, new sounds … new takes on everything. I heard His voice, His teachings in everything ... music, movies, scripture, friends, etc.

I can look back on my past and see many of the moments in my life where God was there for me, where God was perhaps trying to get my attention … and not only could I not hear Him, I wasn’t even listening.

Our obedience … the very condition of our heart has a lot to do with how well that we will perhaps hear His messages for us. The attitude in which we are operating under, our ‘rightness’ with the Lord will impact how well we are receiving Him. It was said in a sermon once before; that silence is not that God’s not speaking to you, it’s that you’re not in the position to hear Him.

Those very things that we wrestle with, that we choose to hold onto, that we place between God and ourselves are the very things that make it easy to miss His message for us, that make it easy to overlook His voice. We are not in the position to hear Him, as we are trying to remain in control of something that’s not for us to control.

How about the ignoring of the ‘nudge’ that comes from the Holy Spirit because we are holding onto these things? There have been times where the Spirit clearly made the ‘truth’ to be known, but my attitude, my hearts condition moved me to ignore the truth and go at it my own way. I have not been successful at finding success in any of those moments yet.

When we submit ourselves to the obedience of His ways, His truths, when we apply ‘God First’ in all that we do and in all that we are, the view we have of life is greatly altered. The world becomes less of a distraction and those things that we normally wrestle with become easier to contend with.

Remember, there’s a difference between hearing (knowing) and listening (doing). We are called to action, and how are we to know what we are called to do if we’re not listening for His direction?

Trust in His promises, trust in His ways although they are far bigger than we can see or comprehend, if we listen He will take us there, He will guide us to our place of original intention and His purpose filled design for us.

Have faith in the fact that He loves you for who you are, who He’s made you, so when you’re faced with a circumstance in your life and you find yourself not knowing what to do, He knows what to do. Seek Him. Hear His message for you. Listen to His direction. He has the answer. He has the way.
