"But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:31

The Christian is often eager to say submissively, "Lord, I will go where You go." just like it is easy to respond to the "Yes" from the Lord. We are so impatient. We also tend to think if we are waiting than either we are doing something wrong or we have missed the Lord's will at that time. Since He thinks so infinitely unlike us (Isaiah 55:8-9), we are surprised to learn that following often does not mean moving. Even the "No" is easier than when the Lord says "Wait". That is a four-letter word to us. Still part of submitting to the Lord involves those waiting times, much like a servant/waiter who waits on the one he serves in anticipation the one served will eventually say "Move".

The following believer will tell you, "Ninety percent of the life of a Christian is a life of waiting." They know because of the following they have sought to do with the Lord.

I believe waiting is a part of following. One has to be attentive to following, so if one finds they must wait it may be because they were listening for that command. They were attentive in their following.

Waiting means:
Readiness to do His will,
Trusting expectation He will call,
Submission to what is so difficult to do.
We are on the lookout for the Lord.

Waiting often means doing things that are so ordinary and mundane. We often rather run than wait. Walking can often be so tedious. We will be tempted to think what we do is futile and foolish. Maybe Jesus walked the lands of Judea as an example. Usually kings ride horses or in chauffeured limousines?

Waiting will mean sleepless nights, so that the house stays in order.

We often pray for the Lord's will to be done on earth forgetting waiting happens here (Matthew 6:10). Jesus promised that we will not when He comes. It seems wise for one to wait if one has nothing else told of him. The silence will often challenge us to stay faithful and vigilant to what we are supposed to do, even if it is a mundane job.

Let us remember that Jesus pronounced a blessing on waiting/watching:

"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." - Luke 12:37-40

I personally am convicted that this writing came as a result of waiting.
