Children singing hymns of praise
little voices and little faces
in all earnestness
basking in his love.

Children saying ‘I love you’
an echo of Christ’s words
from innocent minds and
untroubled hearts
forgiving and forgetting.

Adults departing from that stage
harbour evil thoughts
in unclean minds
that remember in unforgiving hearts

Lord, take away myself
and make me that child again
who sings
‘Thank you Jesus’ and shouts
‘Praise the Lord!’
