EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP 3
Leadership expert John C. Maxwell expressed one of the principles of productive leadership as “To add growth, lead followers. To multiply growth, lead leaders. Most of organizations established by Africans seldom outlive their founder because the leader is raising followers. The organizations make profit and grow. However when the founder dies, no one is found who is adequately qualified to step into his shoes. With time, their market share dwindles until there is no company to have a share of the market.
When you raise leaders, you are building your dream team. Not only will your Church or business grow, it will experience multiplication. A dream team is a team of leaders in your organization who can do what you can and can’t do. They can do the job the way you would do it, if not better when you are not around (not necessarily when you die). When you need time to rest and rejuvenate, your company can thrive because you have built leaders.
You raise leaders by equipping your followers with the knowledge that has made you their leader. Give them the books, Cds, and materials that have made you successfully. When you do so, you empower your team to solve the problems you have overcome. They become better individuals. This gives them capacity to do what you can do. It also increases their trust in you, making you a better leader.
When you build leaders, you build a system that can run without you. Every organization we have come to respect today like Coca Cola and Microsoft have systems that run without the boss. I believe we will build organizations in Africa and the world that will stand the test of time.
