In the culture that we live in today, sexual experience is highly valued. There is even the notion that if we do not engage in sex we will be sick and die. I know this is a notion that is prevalent in our society because I deal a lot with teens and they have repeatedly told me that this is the idea they hold. However, Scripture does not support this idea, rather it refutes it. The lie then is a reversal of the facts. Wonder who is behind that?

We understand, clearly, that there are some combinations of chemicals which cannot be mixed together, doing so not only destroys the two chemicals, but will create one deadly effect. I am thinking specifically of chlorine bleach and ammonia. To mix those two chemicals creates a powerful cleaning solution but one that will produce a deadly gas. Upon the mixing of those two chemicals a white cloud immediately forms and rising permeates the room. It is a harmful gas and possibly death producing to those who have impaired lungs, and caustic to the lungs of all who breathe it.

We have a Manual given to us by the Maker of the Product, which tells us that engaging in sexual contact with any other than the one mate inside the boundaries of marriage, is destructive to our own body; and yet we keep trying to make it work another way. Some things are a fact and we shall never change them. Trees just do grow toward the sun and they require water, and soil in which to grow. The sun rises and cannot be stopped. It sets under no control of ours. If we jump from a building, we shall not ascend we shall rather fall to the ground. God, the Creator has set some boundaries and we can not change them.

God set boundaries regarding our sexual engagements as well, and while we may violate those boundaries we cannot break them, no, they will break us instead.

In I Corinthians 7: 9 – 20, we are given vital instruction about the destruction of our own body as well as the cancelling of our hope for the destination we intend, when we engage in fornication, idolatry, adultery, being effeminate, abusing of ourselves with mankind, stealing, being covetous, getting drunk, reviling, and being an extortionist; that none of those who practice these things shall inherit the Kingdom of God. (Repentance is required.)

Paul singles out tis particular issue for this group of people, the Corinthians, who as pagans had been engaged in pagan worship with the practices of sexual indulgences as worship to their former gods.

Paul specifically points to the fact that the act of sexual contact is the formation of becoming “one” with the person they had engaged themselves in the sexual act. His question to them is; “Don’t you know that your members are the members of the body of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot?” “GOD FORBID!”

Another question he asked them was this: “Tell me, don’t you know that he who has joined himself to a harlot (or adulterer, or fornicator) IS now one body (with that sexual contact)?” For God has said, “The two shall become one flesh.”

The fact is that sexual contacts, made outside the boundaries of marriage, create a lot more than a moment of exotic pleasure for the fee of a one time payment, or no fee at all. The price is very high and will bring destruction to all of the violator’s life and to the family they profess to love.

In verse 18 Paul gets very descriptive. He says, “Flee! Run from fornication!” The reason he states once again, “Every sin that man does is outside the body, but he that commits fornications sins against his own body.”

Should we not think about this fact, this established fact, which we cannot any more change that than we can orchestrate the changing of the tides of the sea, or the rising of the sun?

If we think we can, then that should tell us we do not believe the Scriptures. That should make us question our salvation experience. If we know that it is wrong and are caught in a hold of strong habit of indulgence, we should confess our sin to God and ask Him for deliverance and for forgiveness. He is the only one Who can do it, and still this requires our will to be joined with His will, and our commitment to never do it again. That is called repentance.

Would the act of promiscuous sexual indulgence be so exciting if every time the thought was entertained we would say to ourselves, “This is suicide.” ? The Bible says it destroys you.
