To Be Like Jesus and Rejoice
Not Like Jonah and Whine

I want to be like Jesus in all aspects of my life. I try to have compassion on those in need. I turn the other cheek but don’t look the other way. I feel led to witness to the lost, but end up like Jonah.
God tells me to go and witness to the God-forsaken people down the street. I go instead into my house and read a good book. It may not even be the Good Book. The people I am called to witness to may have a past with me and like Jonah, I am not too crazy excited to be in their presence. Likewise, they may not be too crazy to be in mine. So, after God convinces me it’s better to witness than reject His will, I go. I mumble, “You’re a sinner and need Jesus as your Savior or you’ll die and burn in Hell. Hell already has enough kindling so please don’t add to the pile.”
Crap. They repent.
I shuffle head hung back home and throw a pizza in the oven. I complain to God that there is now another person going to Heaven that I could care less about. While I am on my knees before God my pizza burns. I complain to God that now lunch is burnt and that now I have to fix something new. The LORD tells me that I’m more concerned about my appetite by not filling my empty gut than Hell being filled with burnt lost souls.
He also adds that as a follower of Jesus, I should be rejoicing when sinners repent. Jonah stewed in the hot sun about Nineveh repenting. Jesus, unlike Jonah, rejoiced at the pagans’ salvation all the way to His death.
