I Cannot Keep Silent

I stood in front of the council, silent as they laid charges against me. Disorderly conduct by my preaching in the streets, and treason against the state by speaking the name of Jesus Christ.
Finally, they asked me, “By what right do you do these things?”
I answered them, my words coming from the Holy Spirit inside me. “I am the blind who can now see God’s glory.
“I am the cripple who can now dance before God.
“I am the mute who can now sing God’s praises.
“I am the deaf who can now hear God’s voice.
“I am the captive who can now soar in God’s presence.
“I am the dead who now lives forever. I speak and do these things, for which I have been brought here, by the right of the second-born by the blood of Jesus Christ.”
They conferred for a moment, then spoke to me again. “If you will deny Christ, and keep silent of such things from now forth, you will only have a few years imprisonment. However, if you choose to persist, there is only one thing left for you: death.”
I replied, “Truly, that is a hard decision to make. To live and tell others about Jesus, or to go home to Heaven. To live is gain, to die is gain.
“However, you say that I may only live if I deny my Savior. And that I cannot do. I cannot keep silent about all that He has done for me, and therefore, I must choose death for my mortal body. But you cannot harm my soul.
“As soon as my head is separated from my body, I will be in Heaven’s courts, standing before the throne of Almighty God. And there is true joy.”
“So be it,” they growled.
And it was.
