Affliction, trials, tribulation and challenges come in different shapes and sizes. And it comes to people from all works of life. For poor people the challenge might be money or just the business of survival and the need to have the basic necessities of life.
For rich people, it might be a whole different ball game, anything from drug addiction, alcohol addiction, one form of sickness or the other, a child that has become the black sheep of the family. It could be a wrong choice, poor judgment, or negative publicity that can destroy the individual’s hard work or lifelong within a few minutes.
Some people are able to draw strength with or without the help of other people. Others, especially people of faith are able to go to God in genuine repentance and they receive help in time of trouble. Thus they are able bounce back again and do greater things than they did before.
However some others are never heard of again worse still, some lose all hope and they decide to commit suicide. And people that are left to mourn them say “but why”. Only God can answer this question, and sometimes even God choose to be silent and so some become angry with God and abandon the faith.
There is so much pain in this world sometimes, and God knows that there would be times that we will pass through, as individuals , as a church family, as a nuclear or extended family, and even as nation. Yet the word of God says if you fail in the day of adversity your strength is small. (Proverbs 24:10)
May God strengthen us always in the mighty name of Jesus. The Lords knows all that we will pass through in this world, no wonder, he taught his disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer.(Matthew 6:9-14) This is an all encompassing prayer. In times past, we used to say this prayer daily in school. Thank God for the good old days.
May God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, continue to help us in the name of Jesus. Shalom.
