The Marvelous Creation

One of the most cherished periods of service members of the Armed Services of the United States is mealtimes. During the twelve days of the Christmas season, where possible, many units will permit their personnel leave to be with their families. For those who must stay behind, memorable associations are formed that often last a life time.

On a Christmas evening during the first Iraqi War, soldiers of a military police unit arrived at the dining facility. After the seven personnel in their group had made their meal selections, Private First Class David Hurte (not his actual name) volunteered to say grace. Everyone in the group agreed and freely participated. After the Private had thanked Father God for His Son, their friendship and food, Private Hurte paused momentarily then stated, “And thank you, Father God, for the soldier have so lovingly given this units!”

“Which soldier are you referring to Private Hurte?” Lieutenant Colonel Peter Boyland asked.

“Me, sir! I’m thanking God for my presence in this unit because I’m special, sir! Aren’t I?”

At that moment the Colonel had no response to the young seemingly arrogant Private. Later that evening as Colonel Boyland reconsidered the Private’s comment, he thought, “Maybe the Private is on to something. It is written in the Bible that each and every person is individually and specially designed by God Himself.”

Colonel Boyland was overwhelmed by his Private’s thought. “You know, I’ve never really thank Almighty God for making me. If it wasn’t for the utterance of a very young Private, I would never have even thought of myself in this light.”

Like the Colonel, perhaps it is time to thank God each and every day for YOU as you are specially formed and fashioned by a God who knows exactly who you are by name as well as every single hair and cell that makes up your body!
