Revelation 5:11-14 – Praising the Lamb

Key Verses: (NCV)

• 11b-12: “There were thousands and thousands of angels 12saying in a loud voice: ‘The Lamb who was killed is worthy to receive power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and praise!’” – The heavenly host proclaim Jesus, the sacrificial lamb, as the only one worthy to open the scrolls of judgment held by God.
  
  
• 13: “Then I heard all creatures in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea saying; ‘To the One who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever.’” – All creation lifts songs of praise to God and Jesus.
  
  
• 14: “The four living creatures said ‘Amen,’ and the elders bowed down and worshiped.” – Recognition of Jesus’ authority spreads and all will bow down and worship Him.
  

Points to Contemplate:

• Do you sing a new song? In these verses, all of heaven responds to the power and authority of Jesus by singing songs of praise. (Read Psalm 96 and 150 as illustrations of how we are to praise God.) Have you accepted His authority in your life? Can you join the chorus that fills the heavens with joyous praise? Can you declare His sacrifice as a victory in your life? Do you see that by doing so you are not alone? Are you encouraged and strengthened in your faith when you realize that heaven and earth, together, are singing praises to your Lord?
  
  
• Is Jesus the center of your life? John is writing his letter to the early Christian churches who are struggling with myriad of issues stretching from persecution to idolatry. He tells them that we handle the pressures of life by setting aside earthly issues and focusing on Christ, the only one worthy of our praise. What are your priorities? What earthly issues have grabbed your attention? Do they cause you to worry? Do they lead you astray? Should you be setting these things aside and turning your focus to Jesus?
  
  
• Are you feeling the pressure of society? Does the evening news dictate your thoughts and opinions? Are you swayed by the latest craze or fad? Are the issues of life too complex? Are you chasing truth and wisdom? Would it help to turn to Christ? Do you accept that His truth never wavers? That the clarity of His vision never clouds? In the midst of your darkness can you give “the Lamb (your) praise and honor and glory… forever and ever?”
  

Promises of the Gospel:

The book of Revelation can overwhelm us with imagery and metaphor. However, these verses peal forth a sound of truth that cannot be overlooked. Jesus resides at the right hand of God and only He is worthy to be there. All of heaven and earth rejoice in praise to the Lamb. This image of Jesus sitting at the throne of God transcends all human endeavors to explain the reality of God in their lives. Jesus creates a bridge for all of us to gain access to God. Sing songs of praise and shout loud “Amens” as you bow down and worship your Lord.
