Camels in the desert step
Into the sinking sand
As wind-blown nomads plod along
In search of something grand.

They hope to find some water;
In the desert there are streams
Flowing from God's river,
Bringing prophecies and dreams,

Joy unspeakable and glorious,
Faith that works through love,
Through God's Spirit full of wisdom,
Gentle as a dove.

They seek to stir the gift that lies
Within the ancient well.
But as the sand gets in their eyes,
It's awfully hard to tell

Just where to find the path that leads
Unto the grand oasis.
"Oh why?" they cry, "is it so hard?
Should we be changing places?

We're tired of all the clutter
That is piled within our spaces.
How we long for this to stop!
Oh why will God not face us?

We long to have an audience,
To speak unto the king!
Like wise men, we have gifts to bear.
Oh for an eagle's wing

Instead of beasts that move so slow!
Oh how they drag us down!
We are not getting anywhere!
Please take us into town!

The vision of a great oasis
Stretches far and wide.
The people are so thirsty!
See them travel side by side

As they search to find the star
That leads them to the light,
Where in their hearts Christ first was born,
Who is all their delight!

Oh that their God would blow away
The sand that whirls 'round!
For then instead of feeling lost,
They'd know that they were found!

Oh how they long to place their feet
Upon the solid ground,
To get into that secret place
Where they'll be safe and sound!

But though the travelers seek escape
From this unending blizzard,
Strangely they feel drawn much further,
deep into the desert.

At first they wonder why, instead of out,
they are pulled in.
They wonder if God's angry.
Have they done some grievous sin?

Then through the whirlwind God does speak.
They hear the trumpet blow.
It gives them faith to carry on
As they trudge through the 'snow.'

"Be thankful for your camels,"
Is the first thing God does say,
"Who've carried all your baggage
Such a desperately long way.

For though your progress may be slow,
Their feet won't let you sink.
I've made them to go many days
Without the need of drink.

If you've a hump to sit upon,
Then you are doing well.
Many are without such things,
And others are in hell.

Besides, in case you do not know,
The apple of my eye
Is in the whirlwind's center.
So to reach it you must try.

For there is peace within the middle
Of my hurricane.
And as you meet in unity
You'll be made whole again.

I'm drawing to this wondrous place
My body of believers,
So they may learn to walk in grace,
Apart from all deceivers.

Outside the storm is raging
And there is no place of rest.
For in the valley of decision
Lies the greatest test.

The wind does blow, the sand does burn,
To draw all men unto me,
And lead them to the cross of Christ,
Who calms the stormy sea.

I send the wind to draw you in
Towards my awesome presence.
And as you enter in together,
You will see the evidence.

The watchmen will see eye to eye
When I restore Mount Zion.
For to that mountain I will come,
And that you can rely on.

The greatest miracle will come
When there is unity.
My majesty will fill the earth,
My glory you will see.

The closer that you all do come,
Connecting with each other,
The closer I will be to you.
So comfort one another.

Come into the center of
My will, perfect and true.
Press in close together,
And I shall draw close to you.
