Lord I wish I could tell the truth
That you truly understand
But they just cannot conceive
How a God becomes a man

Lord I wish I could tell the truth
That you know all their faults
That the Son of Man has come
To seek and save those which are lost

Lord I wish I could tell the truth
That you know all their pain
That love and faith in Christ
Gives the only eternal gain

Lord I wish I could tell the truth
That you wish to see them whole
That you came and bled and suffered
Just to save their weary soul

Lord I wish I could tell the truth
I wish to be the salt and light
Lord I wish I could tell the truth
But the words won’t come out right
