We are in a battle. We are the militants fighting seriously against the forces of evil. We are not left alone in this world to fight without any help. We have been assured all knowledge of warfare and necessary weapons to wear to engage ourselves in that battle. We are also assured victory if we are perseverant in our fight.

Yes, you have been assured victory in your battle. You are also assured of a secret name that none except you can know. It is a secret pact between you and God!

‘A white stone’ with a new name

We must realize that the ultimate goal of our fight is against the evil and the ultimate success is the triumph that we score over evil. God, our dearest Father, does not leave us alone to fight this important battle! He is with us with the great reward. He says, “To the victor I will give the hidden manna. And I will also give a white stone with a new name on it which no one knows except the one who receives it.”(Revelation 2:17)

What is that ‘white stone’?

It is the name of the person who wins over the battle. It is someone who conquers like Lord Jesus that will receive such a great gift from God. Lord Jesus made his conquest over the powers of darkness and evil. So also someone who will overcome the powers of darkness, like the Lord did, would be entitled for such a gift and recognition. It is the promise of Jesus. He has promised us that the one who makes the conquest will be allowed to share the throne with him. Once our soul is freed from sin, it becomes the pure essence of God. If we realize this truth, we will be filled with the zeal and enthusiasm to attain that purity.

A battle against evil

In order to win the battle we are here to fight fervently and carefully. That is why Peter writes, “Be sober and alert because your enemy the devil prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Stand your ground, firm in your faith, knowing that our brothers and sisters scattered throughout the world are confronting similar sufferings.” (1 Peter 5: 8-9)

The weapons to protect us

We are advised by Paul to put on all the necessary weapons. “Put on the whole armor of God to be able to resist the cunning of the devil… Take truth as your belt, justice as your breastplate, and zeal as your shoes to propagate the Gospel of peace. Always hold in your hand the shield of faith to repel the flaming arrows of the devil. Finally use the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, that is, the Word of God. Pray at all times as the Spirit inspires you. Keep watch, together with sustained prayer and supplication for all the holy ones.” (Ephesians 6: 11-18)

God is faithful and He will not let us be tested beyond our strength. Every test is for our reward. Hence let us be hopeful in the loving providence of God. Our personal names are written in His palm. His affectionate hands are embracing us. Let us be cheerful and continue our journey of battle on this earth with a smiling face!
