The Exploits of Grace
And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2Corithian 12: 9A;
Grace is a gift from God. Grace has been defined as unmerited favour. It is a divine enablement that empowers a man to do beyond the ordinary and achieve the impossible. When grace is at work in a man’s life, expectations are surpassed, limitations are set aside, boundaries are crossed, mountains are surmounted, struggles become a thing of the past and all things work together for good! Nothing can be compared with the grace of God! No one can succeed or make it through the journey of life without a measure of God’s grace.
The first work of grace in the life of a believer is that of salvation, Ephesians 2: 8-9 says ‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast’. Salvation is by grace; no mortal can please God or pay the price of redemption from sin and eternal damnation, it is the grace of God that has brought salvation to us through Jesus Christ the son of God. All good works, morality and righteousness of man are useless without Christ, salvation is a gift freely given by grace through faith in Christ.
One striking truth about grace is that God releases it only to the humble. Those who are proud and full of themselves can never have access to the grace of God. God has no business releasing His grace on those who think they can make it without Him. The book of James 4:6 says ‘But He giveth more grace, Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.’ To qualify for the grace of God, we must empty ourselves completely and lean on Him absolutely. Oftentimes, the reason God does not respond or come to our aid is because we are still trying to work things out by ourselves. We need not wait till we come to our wit ends before we realize that we can never go on without His grace. It is when God sees in us a heart of humility and total dependence on Him that He will release His grace upon our lives.
In addition, grace comes in measures. Grace has the ability to grow from one level to the other. There is no limit to what a man can achieve through God’s grace provided he is ready to put the measure of grace he has into use and grow thereby. Against the assumption of many, grace does not suggest that one should go to sleep and make no efforts at all; grace gives no room for laziness. In fact, grace puts more demands on a man –the more grace God releases upon you, the more the demands and expectations on your life! The surest way to grow in grace is not to fail the expectations and demands of heaven upon your life. When we profit with the measure of grace God has given us, there will be increase and greater room for more exploits.
Grace has the ability to create an enabling environment for a man to succeed inspite of unfavourable and harsh conditions around him. Apostle Paul was one man that had severe infirmities and limitations, he however did great exploits for the Lord and stood out in his generation. Grace defies physical limitations or disadvantages and enables a man to progress against all oppositions and resistance. A man that is operating under the grace achieves without struggling or stampeding others, he may even be a weakling physically, but God’s abundant grace powers him to stand tall in the midst of challenges and storms of life.
Dearly beloved, we need God’s grace now than never before. The challenges of these days are so overwhelming that no one can survive without His grace. In the midst of severe challenges, our comfort as believers is that we have access to God’s grace and can cope no matter how unfavourable the situations are. Why should a believer suffer the same fate with the world? Why should a believer give up when God says His grace is sufficient? It appears a lot of believers have received grace of God in vain. If there is anytime we need to ask for God’s grace and grow in it, it is now! His grace is available, His grace is sufficient. We can move forward no matter the situation when we rely on His sufficient grace.
Shalom.
