Psalm 119.47

Continually steadfast

“I delight in your commands, which I dearly love” [Psalm 119.47]

David did not delight, as some of us might have done by reiterating his victories over his vices, or the influential circles he was now moving in, rather he delighted in the word of the Lord, which was the instrument of his victories. David’s motto always was, “To God alone be the glory.”

Arising from some of our spiritual successes, the spirits of self-satisfaction and self-indulgence can take root and flourish with deadly effect.

David, as a man after God’s heart, knew the twin dangers, physically and spiritually, of giving the enemy access. He had set his heart on God and His word - and like the Lord Jesus yielded to His Father’s will in the Garden of Gethsemane [Matt. 26:36-39], David's heart remained steadfast. [David McArdle]
