Poetry
As I walked the hillside
feeling defeated and low,
that is when I saw Him
and I began to slow.
He was with others
the murmurs,
the laughter,
the comraderie.
He looked at me and smiled
I was captivated, I was drawn
I walked to where He was,
listened to Him speak.
Many were there
still He looked my way
Later I approached
Jesus, I asked
Why do you look at me that way?
You are mine,
he said with a smile.
I followed Him,
not because the others did
but that He drew me to Him
in such a way
I watched, and I listened,
day by day
I grew to love Him,
I could not resist
He was such a man
but in a different way
like the most wonderful friend,
one that you knew would always stay
Jesus, I asked
Why do you make me feel this way?
You love me is all He would say
He walked, and He walked some more
near and far He spoke
and so enchanting was He
that He grew more precious with each day
He planted seeds
He drew men from every corner,
He healed the blind,
touched the untouchable
and raised a friend from the dead.
He preached truth
adored the poor
and calmed a sea!
Jesus, I asked
Don't you tire?
No, He said, Come be with me
They came for Him one day
as He said they would.
They kicked and spit upon Him
they beat Him and lashed Him,
the violence, the blood!
I thought I would die from the pain
when they nailed Him to that tree
and I wanted to scream
don't leave me!
please don't leave me!!
Jesus, I cried
Why didn't you tell them you were King?
You are mine
You love me
And you believe
For that I give up my life for you
Jesus, I asked, and tearfully so
Why on earth would you do this for me?
I am nothing, not worthy of this that you do
and will never be!
Ah, but your are, He said.
Someone must die in your place
and I am that chosen Lamb
Now pick up your cross
and tell them the news
tell them all that I Am.
Loose your hair for when next we meet
you will dance with me.
Yes! You will dance with me!
He smiled, closed His beautiful
eyes, then died!
As I walked the hillside,
no longer defeated and low was I,
I hummed a tune of righteousness
for that day I would meet Jesus in the sky
Jesus, I asked...
