"Grandpa, what did you do in the war?"
Oh, how that question cut me like a knife.
How could I answer with the truth of my life?
How do you tell a child you weren't always the man you now are?
All the things that you did; the battles and the scars?

Thank you Lord, I'm not the man
I knew when I was young.
Thank you Lord, for bringing me
To the cross and to Your Son.

I thought I was cool; a legend in my own mind.
Strong as a bull and to others so unkind.
To the devil a disciple I became;
With all his glitter and gold; a little drug and some fame

Thank you Lord, I'm not the man
