The best teachers are not the ones
Who convey what they know.
They are the ones who can reach into you
And touch that place you never knew was there.
And so make it come alive with the desire to learn.

You are such a teacher
Your smile made me glad I came.
Your words of encouragement
Made me want to become more than I was.

Every time you took up the Word
And opened up those scriptures
The Light would pour out
From the pages into my heart

I never seriously read the Bible before,
A verse here…a story there.
But because of you a world opened up to me
I never believed I could ever inhabit.

Because by grace you came into my life.
Because I was blessed by your Midas touch
God’s Word has become the golden currency
Of a life made richer with every turn of the page.

With every Word, I long for the verse
With every verse I yearn for the book
And every yearning returns me to the table
For the meal that only intensifies my hunger

You have filled my heart with the Bread of Life
My soul with the wine of forgiveness.
I can feel the love from my Savior's heart
Because you taught me where to look

Thank you for guiding me in love
Through this glorious and holy landscape
I know I will never get the chance to miss you
Because you will be forever in my heart
