Dear Self,

I’ve known you for a long time!! We’ve been through so much together, and I appreciate you wanting to stick around for a while. It seems as though everywhere I went, there you were. I’ve tried to shake you off several times, but you wouldn’t go. You don’t want to comply and go quietly, so you’ve forced me to get mean with you.

You are no longer welcome here. You’ve been banished, and will not be allowed to return. It’s not that I haven’t enjoyed having you around… I think there have been times that I enjoyed you too much! With that said… I’ve chosen to lay you aside, and focus on things much bigger than you!! Things you wouldn’t understand.

You see…

*Where you are, HE cannot be. And I choose HIM… because HE chose me!!

*Where you are, I cannot hear HIM. And I so desperately want to!

*Where you are, I cannot speak into the lives of others. And that is what HE’S called me to do.

*Where you are, I cannot see. And I need to see what HE wants me to see!

*Where you are, I cannot become all HE has intended me to be. And I need be in HIS will!

*Where you are, is where fear, self-loathing, and disgrace lie. And I will have no part of any of those things!

Now, I realize there will be times when you try to return. Try to manipulate me. Try to make me feel a certain way. Tell me lies. Tempt me. I will cast you down again and again, if need be. So…

DON’T YOU DARE put me down!

DON’T YOU DARE make me feel small!

DON’T YOU DARE cloud my head with things that are irrelevant!

DON’T YOU DARE stick your ugly temptation in my face!

DON’T YOU DARE tell me lies!



Because, you see…

I serve a BIG GOD!! HE is more than capable of overriding anything that you throw my way! HE gives me strength! HE brings me peace! HE tells the truth! HE has lifted me on the wings of eagles! HE has made me righteous! HE has vision! HE is my healer! HE is my source! HE will not allow you to rule over me anymore!! HE IS GOOD!! Not for what HE’S done, but for WHO HE IS!!!

Now… be gone, Self!!
